International Health Programs (IHP)
began its long history of training, consultation and research in 1972
and operates a vibrant regional training center in Santa Cruz, California.
Having offered courses in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic,
Russian, and Romanian, IHP has trained over 6,000 individuals in a
broad range of health-related fields, including reproductive health,
family planning, HIV/AIDS, leadership, and health care reform.
As a program of the Public Health Institute, IHP also works with training
centers around the world to provide regional and in-country training
as requested. IHP has provided technical assistance to health administrators
and practitioners throughout the developing world has been a focal
point of IHP on a broad range of topics, including:
- Reproductive Health Leadership Development
- Child Survival
- Safe Motherhood
- Family Life Education
- Nutrition in Development
- Health Care Finance
- Financial Management
- Clinical Quality Assessment
- NGO Management.
In the area of research, IHP has access to a strong pool of research
specialists and epidemiologists with capabilities in operational studies.
Research has deepened the understanding of incidence and causation,
created appropriate strategies and systems and supported the building
of capacity within institutions and communities to develop the most
effective solutions.
