Aide Ortiz

foto de personasAide Ortiz became a Summit Fellow at age 26.  She is a social worker who has lived in Quintana Roo for 15 years. She has acted as a counselor for young people and their parents in Cancun through a municipal court-run service program for youth offenders. Aide oversaw the family planning and reproductive health program of the Mexican Institute for Social Security in peri-urban areas of Playa del Carmen for a few years prior to being based out of Cancun. In this capacity, she has supervised educators who make home visits to provide counseling and contraception to youth and families. Aide is committed to social change, and passionate about working to improve the sexual and reproductive health of the youth and women of Quintana Roo, Mexico.  She received the Summit Educational Scholarship in 2007 and is now in the middle of completing her Master’s Degree in Psycology and Family Therapy at the Universidad del Mayab in Yucatán.

Marco Toh

foto de personasMarco Toh became a Fellow at the age of 25.  A native of Cozumel, he had spent a year coordinating the department of training for the Cozumel Human Rights Commission. In this position he conducted outreach and education in human rights, including sexual and reproductive rights, in the schools and communities of Cozumel. He has always shown a strong passion for sexuality and reproductive health, sharing his particular interest in looking at issues of sexual diversity and discrimination. He participated in GoJoven’s Training of Trainers program and has since become an accomplished trainer for the program as well as in his own work.  He has a law degree and is self-taught in English. Marco has been promoted to the position of Training Coordinator, for the northern part of the state of Quintana Roo.

Roberto Carlos Flores

foto de personasRoberto Carlos Flores became a Summit Fellow when he was 26 years old. He worked in San Pedro Sula, teaching teachers, and is also a leader in his church, where he spends his time working with youth groups. He is particularly concerned about helping adolescents adjust to life changes, and to ensure that they can protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies and HIV/AIDS. A computer aficionado, Roberto is now a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Technology in Escuela Normal Mixta del Litoral Atlántico (ENMLA) and at Instituto Superación Valle de Lean.  He received a Summit Educational Scholarship in 2007 to finish his Bachelor’s Degree in Math at the Universidad Pegagogica Nacional “Francisco Morazán” in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Adriana Molina Castro


foto de personasAdriana Molina Castro, a dentist from La Ceiba, was 25 years old when she was selected as a Summit Fellow.  Adriana is passionate about and committed to improving the reproductive health of young people in her community.  It was only after she returned from her university studies in Tegucigalpa that she saw how beset the young people of La Ceiba were with the problems of early pregnancy, unemployment and HIV infection. She now works mornings at a health clinic as the only dentist in the area. She spends her afternoons and weekends volunteering with the NGO Center for the Promotion of Family Health and Assistance (CEPROSAF) and the Youth Employment Summit (YES) campaign, working with rural youth to empower them through leadership and knowledge. Adriana is committed to serving her community, through her clinic and her outreach work.

Dalila Flores

foto de personasDalila Flores was 27 when she became a Summit Fellow.  She is a well-spoken energetic nurse who has worked for ten years in the public hospital in Coxen Hole, Roatan. She is also involved in her local community council, as a member of the “patronato.” She works in both the emergency and maternity wards at the hospital and is concerned about the high number of adolescent mothers that she sees both in the hospital and in the community.

Andy Lopez

foto de personasAndy Lopez, 26, works full-time in the health clinic at Anthony’s Key Resort in Roatan. He is trained as an Emergency Medical Technician, and also manages the decompression chamber at the resort. Andy volunteers with the Roatan HIV/AIDS Committee, is a leader in his church, and serves as Sub-Director for First Aid at the Red Cross. With the Red Cross, Andy is in charge of training, manages volunteers, and provides instruction for youth and local communities on first aid, swimming, disaster preparedness, and HIV/AIDS. Andy is interested in the linkages between population, health and the environment. As he is cognizant of the important role that tourism plays in Roatan’s economic development, he is concerned with the development of the reef and the people of Roatan. Andy is an energetic, charismatic and well-connected leader.

Luis Enrique Garcia

foto de personasLuis Enrique Garcia was 24 years old when he became a Summit Fellow and is the President of the “patronato,” or city council, of Sambo Creek, a Garifuna village located 20 kilometers east of La Ceiba. An articulate, dynamic and visionary leader of his community, Luis Enrique understands the problems posed to his community by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and is eager to learn more about sexual and reproductive health in order to better address these challenges.

Eben Reyes

9Eben Reyes became a Summit Fellow when he was 23. He works in San Pedro Sula with Comunicacion para la vida (COMVIDA), a local government program focusing on AIDS/HIV prevention among youth. As leader of his local Adventist church, Eben also plays an active role in the lives of the religious youth in his community. He is commited to educating her peers about HIV and is very interested in using his IT background to teach youth via the internet. He presently lives in Pasadena, California.
